The Great American Aran Afghan will appeal to anyone who likes cables.
Twenty four designers each submitted a design for one square. Some are delicate and others are heavily patterned. The winning square is the second photo.
Twenty of these squares will can be sewn together to make an afghan and the remaining four can be made into small cushions.
If you are feeling creative you could design your own aran sweater and incorporate some of the stitch patterns used in the squares.
The book also contains mini biographies of each of the designers, finishing and stitch instructions. All the patterns are given in both written and charted form.
