Woolly wool
Monday, 30 March 2015  |

I have used Shetland wool before, so knew what to expect from Ultra Lace Weight. The Shetland fleece and the woollen-spun construction make it woolly, rustic, delicate, crunchy, a little fuzzy ... I love it! (If you aren't familiar with woollen-spun construction, you may have seen it in Brooklyn Tweed's Loft or Shelter, although there are plenty of differences between woollen-spun yarns.) There is no vegetable matter to remove, and it spit-felts easily. It is slightly prickly, although this subsides with time (wear and washing). The natural grey of sholmit is a very slightly brown, heathered grey. So, in conclusion, Shetland wool is not for everyone but I highly recommend trying it out. If it turns out not to be your cup of tea, you won't have any trouble finding a new home for it.

It Is What It Is -- and More
Thursday, 19 September 2013  |

This is the real deal of Shetland wool. Despite the lace-weight, it is springy when knit. The yarn varies slightly in thickness (remember, this -is natural fibre and not heavily processed), and varies ever-so-faintly in colortone. --- The yarn had no knots. The skeins gave no problems with tangling. The color, peach melba, was warm and exactly as expected.

. . . and more! The skeins I ordered included considerably more yards than I expected.
